Thank you so much for saying exactly what I was saying to a friend just yesterday about Harvey Pekar's non-contribution to autobiographical comics. You pin-point it when you say that many of us thought "he’d never have gotten into print if Robert Crumb hadn’t illustrated his first few books." AMERICAN SPLENDOR (the magazine) generally pissed me off for being so inconsequential yet garnering so much critical attention. The media has obviously jumped to the conclusion that Pekar invented auto-bio comics.  It's gratifying to see someone trying to set the record straight (no pun intended).
